UPDATE: Wezhira Community Radio Initiative questioned by police

WINDHOEK, Namibia, 03 July 2015 / PRN Africa / -- Wilson Maphosa, radio producer and volunteer at Wezhira Community Radio Initiative in Zimbabwe's southern town of Masvingo was on 30 June 2015 questioned by the police regarding the initiative's operations.




Maphosa who was in the company of his lawyer Martin Mureri, a member of MISA-Zimbabwe's Media Lawyers Network, was quizzed on the initiative's operations, legal status and governance structures.




The police also asked questions about the initiative's radio equipment.




Background




The visit by the police follows the questioning of Maposa on 15 June 2015 over suspicion that the initiative owned broadcasting equipment and had started broadcasting.




Subsequent to the questioning, the initiative's premises were searched by two policemen from Masvingo Central Police Station's Law and Order Section on 29 June 2015.




On 29 of June 2015, the police also instructed the initiative to present an inventory of all the equipment in their custody to the police station on 30 June 2015.
