Latin American Broadcasters Poised to Score Big at Copa America 2015 Tournament by Using LiveU Units

Latin American Broadcasters Poised to Score Big at Copa America 2015 Tournament by Using LiveU Units

More than 80 of LiveU's units including the lightweight LU200 will be used to serve the needs of broadcasters from eight nations across the Americas

HACKENSACK, N.J., June 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LiveU, the pioneer and leader in IP-based live video services and broadcast solutions for acquisition, management, and distribution, will support the live broadcast of one of the most viewed and prestigious sporting events in Latin America: the 2015 Copa América, hosted in Chile from June 11 - July 4. Major broadcasters from eight nations will leverage more than 80 of LiveU's video transmission devices, including LiveU's new ultra-small LU200 cellular-bonding and encoding units, making it the first time the recently-launched product will be used during a premier Latin America event. Customers will also deploy LiveU's Xtender to ensure stronger cellular signals in highly congested areas.

Broadcasters from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Honduras, Ecuador, and the United States opted to use various types of LiveU units for tournament coverage, including the LU200, given its high performance, mini form-factor for live video transmission, and attractive price point. Weighing just over 1 lb. (500 grams), the LU200 opens new live coverage opportunities at a similar price of a single channel solution but with greater resiliency and superior video quality. LiveU units are managed and controlled by LiveU Central, the unified, cloud-based management platform, which enables fleets of units to be centrally controlled and managed from anywhere around the world using a browser or a mobile device.

"We are very excited about deploying the LU200 to cover this year's tournament," Yesid Guerra of Caracol TV in Colombia. "By using LiveU, we can provide our viewers high-quality content and the live coverage they expect with more flexibility in the field, in any country around the world."

As the preferred provider for last year's FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, LiveU has proven success in international soccer broadcasting. In the first week alone, LiveU customers seamlessly transmitted over 816 hours of live footage and 22 TB of data from Brazil. LiveU expects the introduction of the LU200 to further contribute to the results of this year's event.

"This deployment is a significant one for the LU200, given the importance of this tournament in the Latin America market," said Giovanni Punzo, LiveU's VP of Sales LATAM. "We are eager to see these major broadcasters experience first-hand the distinct advantage that the LU200 provides both as an ultra-portable cellular-bonding device and as a video encoder, and look forward to supporting more worldwide sporting events in the future."
