WILLIAMSBURG, Va., April 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Colonial Williamsburg fans and others drawn to the dramatic conflicts that forged the nation can tune in tonight for the special two-hour season two premiere of the hit AMC show "TURN: Washington's Spies," which filmed at Virginia locations including its restored 18th-century capital, the Revolutionary City.

The historical drama drew an average of 2 million viewers per episode last year and its second season kicks off at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The show then moves to Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT for the remainder of the season.

Season two of "TURN: Washington's Spies" is the first major production to film in Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area since HBO's 2008 miniseries "John Adams," facilitated by the Commonwealth through the Virginia Film Office. Show locations in Virginia's restored colonial capital include the Governor's Palace, the Palace Green, Market Square, and the Wythe House.

Viewers can also be on the lookout for a promotional spot produced by AMC for the Virginia Tourism Corp., inviting them to visit Virginia and take their "turn" at espionage by playing Colonial Williamsburg's alternate reality game "RevQuest: The King's Advance," the latest installment in the "RevQuest: Save the Revolution!" series, via virginia.org/turn.

"RevQuest: The King's Advance" players or "questors" must navigate Williamsburg during the war's climactic year of 1781, dodging loyalists, connecting with allied agents, collecting clues and cracking ciphers to determine the whereabouts of British forces and Lord Cornwallis' intentions. The game's online component is free; its on-site component is available with tickets except for the sampler.

Based on the book "Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring" by historian Alexander Rose, "TURN: Washington's Spies" stars Jamie Bell as Abraham Woodhull, a farmer living in British-occupied Long Island during the Revolutionary War, who bands together with a disparate group of childhood friends to form the Culper Ring. Together they risked their lives and honor, and turned against family and King, for a fight they believed in passionately, ultimately helping George Washington turn the tide of the war in favor of the rebels.

In addition to Bell, the series stars Seth Numrich as Ben Tallmadge, Daniel Henshall as Caleb Brewster, Heather Lind as Anna Strong, Kevin R. McNally as Judge Richard Woodhull, Meegan Warner as Mary Woodhull, Burn Gorman as Major Hewlett, Angus Macfadyen as Robert Rogers, JJ Feild as Maj. John Andre, Samuel Roukin as Capt. John Simcoe and Ian Kahn as George Washington. Joining the cast for season two are Ksenia Solo as Peggy Shippen and Owain Yeoman as Benedict Arnold.

"TURN: Washington's Spies" is executive produced by Craig Silverstein ("Nikita") and Barry Josephson ("Bones," Enchanted"). Rose joins the writing staff for season two after serving as a consultant in the first season.

The show has filmed at other Virginia locations including the Richmond, Petersburg, Tuckahoe, at the Shirley and Scotchtown plantations and on the Historic Campus of the College of William & Mary.
