Tektronix Adds Dual-Input to Sentry Video Monitoring Portfolio
Monitoring from Input to Transmission Helps Broadcasters Maintain Compliance with Enhanced FCC Guidelines for Closed Captioning, Other Requirements
BEAVERTON, Ore., April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced a dual-input capability for its Sentry Video Network Monitoring solution. This provides broadcasters and other service providers the ability to monitor signals coming in and out of facilities in a single unit. The capability will also make it easier for operators to ensure compliance with enhanced FCC closed captioning quality rules that went into effect on March 16, 2015 as well as with other FCC requirements around video quality and audio loudness.

Under the new FCC guidelines, broadcasters and cable operators must meet standards for television closed captioning for accuracy, synchronicity, completeness and placement. In addition, the FCC has imposed new requirements around record keeping and handling viewer complaints. With its dual input capability, Sentry gives broadcasters a low-cost, self-contained single-unit solution for monitoring compliance with FCC rules along with an integrated alert system and 60-day history. It can be further combined with a Tektronix MTS4000 MPEG analyzer to diagnose and resolve more serious problems.
"With the latest FCC guidelines, it's increasingly important for broadcasters and cable operators to monitor the content coming in and out of their facilities at all times," said Charlie Dunn, general manager, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "The combination of Sentry and the MTS4000 helps them ensure they are achieving compliance, supports reporting requirements and allows them to diagnose and fix intermittent problems that can't be solved with a reboot or replacement of components."
The Sentry closed caption compliance monitoring solution performs real-time validation tests on closed caption content that goes well beyond simply testing for the presence of captions. Instead, it provides actionable alerts and alert control to reduce false positive and avoid tsunami alert floods. Building on this information, the MTS4000 then provides an in depth toolkit to resolve more challenging problems.
Tektronix next generation monitoring solutions are more intelligent, robust and comprehensive than traditional monitoring solutions. These products are used to detect critical issues typically before subscribers experience them and to generate reports for historical/trending analysis while providing scalability and an intuitive Web-based interface.
Availability
The dual-input Sentry, including support for ASI, RF, 1 GbE or 10 GbE inputs, is available now worldwide.
