'An Evening with Gary Hustwit' At NJCU On April 21 To Feature Helvetica Excerpts, Lecture, And Question-And-Answer Session
JERSEY CITY, N.J., April 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- "An Evening with Gary Hustwit," a free program that will feature excerpts from his award-winning documentary, Helvetica, as well as a lecture by and a question-and-answer session with the independent filmmaker and photographer, will be held at New Jersey City University on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m., in Room 202 of Hepburn Hall, 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.
A feature-length documentary about typography, graphic design, and global visual culture, Helvetica looks at the proliferation of one typeface, which celebrated its 50(th) birthday in 2007, as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects people's lives. Helvetica encompasses design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and features interviews with dozens of the most illustrious and innovative names in the design world.
The 2007 film marked Mr. Hustwit's directorial debut as well as the beginning of a design film trilogy, which also includes Objectified about industrial and product design and Urbanized about the design of cities. The films have been screened in over 300 cities worldwide and broadcast on PBS, BBC, HBO, and television stations in 20 countries.
Mr. Hustwit, who is also the author of Helvetica/Objectified/Urbanized: The Complete Interviews, was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his documentary.
A member of the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Mr. Hustwit has served on the grand juries of the Sundance Film Festival, IFP Gotham Awards, and Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.
