World premiere of Roca brothers' film 'Cooking Up a Tribute' at Berlin International Film Festival

Acclaimed documentary depicts El Celler de Can Roca tour in the Americas

Movie documents Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca making an unprecedented move in haute cuisine world, closing their restaurant for five weeks to go on road tour

MADRID, Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Joan Roca and Josep Roca, the directors Andrea Gomez and Luis Gonzalez, and the executive producer Ignacio Moliner presented the world premiere of the documentary Cooking Up a Tribute in the culinary section of the Berlin International Film Festival, or Berlinale. The film is the result of the tour that took El Celler de Can Roca to the Texas cities of Houston and Dallas; the Mexican cities of Mexico City and Monterrey; Bogota, Colombia and Lima, Peru.

Joan Roca explained that "the film reflects our tribute to American cuisine during our gastronomic and social tour with BBVA. We are very happy that this world premiere has been screened here at the Berlinale and we hope that everybody enjoys it and, like us, embarks on this trip around the world to discover those territories and gastronomic treasures."

Cooking Up a Tribute received a standing ovation and the audience participated in a discussion with the brothers after the screening. The film is being distributed in several countries by Berlin's European Film Market.

Ignacio Moliner, BBVA's brand and communications director and the film's executive producer, said, "At BBVA we seek to improve and innovate in everything we do, including the way we communicate. Cooking Up a Tribute is one more example of relevant brand contents like LigaBBVA.com, which is followed every day by nearly 20 million people around the world. Our goal with the Roca brothers is to strengthen our brand with innovative contents like this, which also help improve the societies we visit. We are proud of being at the Berlinale, it motivates us to continue with this strategy in the future."

The film documents the tour that was conceived with the firm conviction that cuisine and gastronomy are a driving force behind social and economic development. With this emphasis on the social dimension and sharing the principles of commitment, responsibility and global reach, the Roca brothers have also searched for the best ingredients in each region and the small local producers that make them possible.

This tour is an unprecedented experience in which nearly 50,000 dishes were prepared for more than 2,700 people. Up to 56 new and different dishes were adapted to Texan, Mexican, Colombian and Peruvian cuisine. More than 200 ingredients and 29 wines were used for each menu in each country.

In addition, the Roca brother trained more than 7,000 catering students and selected 13 of them to receive a training scholarship at the kitchen of El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain.
