New Song by STREETS OF ROME Marks One-Year Anniversary of Controversial Death of Young Giraffe "Marius"





SONOMA COUNTY, Calif., Feb. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A new song released this week on iTunes by STREETS OF ROME, a singer-songwriter band from Sonoma County, California, celebrates the short life of "Marius," a baby giraffe euthanized one year ago at the Copenhagen Zoo. At the age of two, zoo authorities determined the giraffe's DNA were not unique enough to justify his further life or the prospect of future breeding.

STREETS OF ROME have memorialized Marius in their song "Copenhagen." Despite protests and petitions to spare his life, Marius was put down by the zoo on February 9, 2014, dissected in front of children and adults visiting the zoo that day, and his body fed to the zoo's lions - also on full display to the public.

"Copenhagen" is a one-song mini-musical in six short parts that centers on the fate of Marius and celebrates the dignity and sanctity of life, along the way touching on The Greatest Generation, tobacco, pets, love, and baseball - woven together in STREETS OF ROME's unique style. The song debuted February 9, 2015 during a live interview in New York City on the Catholic Channel's "Busted Halo" Show on Sirius XM Satellite Radio. The song was co-written by Edward Patrick Mooney and Ana Luisa Anzore and recorded by the band along with several guest musicians at Bluestone Recording in Petaluma, California.
