Internationally Respected California Architect Publicly Reveals Dual Passions

Internationally Respected California Architect Publicly Reveals Dual Passions

Architectural Business Magazine publisher and Los Angeles's favorite* architect Robert Sawyer scores with both a beautiful new music album and local architecture award.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Very few people who follow the arts, and specifically architecture today, realize that many architects have a love and passion for music as well. Frank Lloyd Wright, the legendary architect, entertained the likes of Georgia O'Keeffe, and the Emperor of Japan, as well as many others at the piano. The LA Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has a band of architects that regularly plays sold-out concerts. There is one architect/musician however, who at age 50, very well may be on top of his game.

Last summer, Bob Sawyer posted his original, impromptu rendition of "I'll Start The Fire", which he created with his brother Jeff, in his Raleigh, North Carolina studio. It went pseudo-viral capturing over 115,000 views in just three days. Bob credits this to the song itself, which he penned shortly after the passing of his grandmother, as a tribute to the late Grace Abbot Sawyer. "For a few days there, it was cool to get phone calls from major label record companies; it was very exciting. Every artist wants public attention, and when it happens, it is a big-time rush on many levels."

Recently, Bob's architecture firm RSAC was voted the Best Architecture Firm on the Westside of Los Angeles by the Argonaut Newspaper. After winning the prestigious award Bob tweets: "First of all, I'd like to thank my parents, my brothers, my daughter, and my dogs. Very honored to have been voted the Los Angeles' Westside's "Second Best" Architect by the Argonaut Newspaper. There are many, many talented design professionals in the LA area. Special thanks to staff, and colleague Karen who've worked very tirelessly for many years."

A major milestone in Bob's music career has finally reached fruition, it's his new record: Sooner or Later. The record itself is much like his architecture - ecological; it is only offered as a download, there are no physical printed CD's, or bubble wraps, or jewel cases being used to deliver it.

"We aren't going to be putting out any physical copies of this record. The world has enough trash, and with the advent of digital recording and delivery techniques, there is absolutely no reason to print anything that you can't get online."

"Also, the quality of the recording is high resolution 24K @ 96 kHz. "It's too bad that Frank Lloyd Wright didn't have a digital recorder in his home or something where he could have captured some of their fun times, and possibly some archiving of legendary performances." Sawyer says.

Sawyer's mother Delores Hilton Sawyer guided him into architecture school at 17, when he already had a record contract, having written 36 songs before graduating high school. Sawyer says: "At the School of Design at North Carolina State University, I learned to fuse the art of architecture with the art of composition. And, as Frank Gehry once told me, architecture is frozen music. I posit that music is liquid architecture." His mother told him that, "One day, you'll have to choose architecture or music!" Thankfully, after listening to "Sooner or Later", he hasn't had to choose.
