This Year's Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive Focuses on Families Helping Families
BURLINGTON, N.J., Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- All across America families struggle to meet their basic needs. According to the 2013 US Census, more than 45 million Americans live in poverty. By necessity, many of these families prioritize food, heat, and shelter above winter clothing. To help make a difference, Burlington, a national off-price retailer offering designer merchandise at everyday low prices, has themed its eighth annual Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive around "Families Helping Families." The coat drive, which will kick off on Saturday, November 1, 2014, benefits K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing apparel and other products donated by manufacturers and retailers to community charities across the U.S. and throughout the world.
Through the initiative, consumers and their families are invited to donate gently-worn coats at drop boxes at Burlington locations nationwide to help the many families are in need of coats during the winter season. Coats should be in good condition, with working closures and no rips or stains. As a thank you, those who donate will receive 10 percent off their entire purchase at Burlington through January 19, 2015. To date, more than 1.3 million coats have been distributed through the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts program.
"Our goal at Burlington this year is to encourage families to help other families this holiday season," said Tom Kingsbury, president and chief executive officer, Burlington Stores. "The Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive allows us to spread warmth nationwide, providing coats to those most in need within communities surrounding our stores."
ABC's Emmy Award-winning news program, Good Morning America, will help to promote the program on-air and on their website starting on November 10, 2014. The effort will help remind its millions of viewers about the ongoing need for coats all across the country, and demonstrate how people can help each and every day. Customers are asked to share stories and tweet why they are donating their coats with the hashtag #CoatNotes for a chance for their story to be seen on-air. In addition, some of the Good Morning America hosts will be donating their coats and their families' coats in hopes of inspiring others to join in on the effort.
"We are delighted to join Burlington again on the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts program," said Allan Ellinger, chairman of K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers. "The partnership allows us to dig deep into local communities to deliver desperately needed coats to people nationwide through 269 community charities. Just one coat can do wonders, so to see it come alive in such a large way is incredible to watch."
