Special Memorial Day programs tell the stories of U.S. Armed Forces war veterans

BOSTON, May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In honor of returning veterans and in remembrance of those who bravely fought and died for our country, WORLD Channel will feature exclusive films that illustrate stories of these brave men and women today and throughout history. This special focus programming, exclusive to WORLD Channel, includes America Reframed: Reserved to Fight and Local USA: PTSD: Bringing The War Home. Following the airing of America Reframed: Reserved to Fight, host, Natasha del Toro, Huffington Post's senior military correspondent, David Wood, and military veteran, Kristen L. Rouse, will discuss moral injury and the issues facing soldiers coming home from war.

Monday, May 26:Local USA:PTSD: Bringing the War Home spotlights those affected by war-related post-traumatic stress disorder: a devastating injury pushes one former soldier into the dark, the family of a Navy Seal tells his tragic story, a woman rebuilds her post-war life, and a program at the City College of San Francisco committed to rehabbing veterans.

Tuesday, May 27:America Reframed: Reserved to Fight follows four Marines of Fox Company, Marine Reserve Unit 2/23, for four years after they return home from front-line combat in Iraq to navigate a minefield of social and psychological reintegration into civilian life. The return to their communities proves as formidable a battle as the more literal firefights of previous months. Living among loved ones who don't yet understand them and how they have changed, contending with a media focused on the politics, rather than the human experience of war, and suffering from a psychological disorder that is difficult to acknowledge, these young veterans grapple to find purpose and healing.

Both programs support of the public media initiative "Stories of Service" initiative, recently announced by PBS and CPB.

"As we take time to reflect on the sacrifices of our service men and women this Memorial Day, WORLD's special focus programming gives viewers a chance to learn about the challenges soldiers and their loved ones face before, during and after combat," says Chris Hastings, executive producer, WORLD Channel.
