Shantanu Hudlikar, Chief Sound Engineer, Yash Raj Film Studios, says, "There is a
philosophy behind creating sound, it's not just technical, if you see music technically
you will never interpret the vision of the musician."
As a sound engineer who learnt on the job, Shantanu wants to ensure that the quality
of sound in India improved. Known as one of the few Sound Engineers in India who
understands technology and hardware as much as the creative aspect of sound engineering,
Shantanu will be sharing 25 years of his experience in one week.
The Soundathon Workshop is only for 30 talented sound engineers, who will be getting
into the nitty gritties of working in a proper professional analog studio where they will
be working together from interpreting the ideas of the extremely talented and upcoming
band Pangea, into a great piece of music.
It's Shantanu's opinion that mixing and recording music is not just a technical
process, it should be second nature to sound engineers and creativity should be on the
forefront.
The workshop will begin with Shantanu and the engineers understanding and interpreting
Pangea's vision for the song, followed by miking and recording techniques with the band.
This will be followed by the mixing, editing and post production for the track. The
artistes will then give their feedback and the track will be finalised. Engineers,
producers, vocalists, musicians, teachers and anyone willing to learn, argue, question and
push Shantanu to his limits is welcome to this experience of a lifetime.
According to Shantanu, "Today it is possible to use replacer toys to make a good
sound, but you can't replace voice, you can't replace a person's soul, you can't replace
tonality."
