Call for Entries: Bank of the West Band Contest on Facebook

Winning Band Will Open Bank of the West Celebrates America Concert on June 27 Featuring Blues Traveler, Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker, Smash Mouth

OMAHA, Neb., May 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Calling all bands! Nominate your favorite up-and-coming bands to enter the Bank of the West Celebrates America Opening Band Contest on Facebook. The winner will earn the chance of a lifetime to open a summertime outdoor concert featuring Blues Traveler, Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker and Smash Mouth. Bank of the West Celebrates America annual concert and fireworksshow is Friday, June 27, 2014, at Memorial Park in Omaha, Nebraska. Now in its 24(th) year, the event has become one of America's largest free outdoor concerts drawing more than 60,000 people from the Midwest.

Contest details are on the Bank of the West Facebook page, Facebook.com/BankoftheWest. Previous winners of the contest are The Morgan Leigh Band, Scarlett Drive and Take Me to Vegas. "Winning the contest and being a part of a production that big was just a great experience," said Chris Martin, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Scarlett Drive, which won the contest in 2012. "We just lived in the moment and enjoyed performing on a large stage for thousands of people."

On Facebook, the public can nominate their favorite up-and-coming bands and then vote for one of five Finalists. Input for selecting the top five Finalists will be provided by Bank of the West executives in addition to music industry representatives from Warner Music Group, Creative Artists Agency and Romeo Entertainment Group.

"It's our fourth year of hosting this nationwide competition, and the field of entrants continues to grow as music lovers nominate and vote for their favorite up-and-coming musicians. It's a great opportunity for selected bands to showcase their talent on Facebook and in front of music industry executives," said Robert Dalrymple, Executive Vice President, Bank of the West's Midwest Division. "The ultimate prize is the experience of opening the region's most popular free summer concert, and warming up the crowd prior to the performances of four nationally known artists."

The public is invited to nominate their favorite up-and-coming bands on Bank of the West's Facebook page until May 19, 2014. Online public voting for the winning band will be June 10 through June 16, 2014, on Bank of the West's Facebook page. Bank of the West will announce the winning band in mid-June.
