Bas Makes Major Label Debut With "Last Winter" Collection On J. Cole's Dreamville Label For Interscope
SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bas, the first artist signed to Dreamville, announced today the upcoming release of Last Winter, the rapper's first collection of recordings for the Interscope Records label headed by multiplatinum artist J. Cole and business partner Ibrahim Hamad. Last Winter will be available digitally beginning April 29. The project will also physically be available exclusively at Best Buy.
Featured on one track a piece are the Grammy-nominated Cole, Irvin Washington, KQuick, and the Grammy-nominated Mack Wilds. Bas (aka Abbas Hamad) co-wrote each of the 12 new songs as well as the previously released bonus track "Lit," which also features Cole and KQuick. Recorded in Brooklyn, NY, selections on Last Winter were produced by Ron Gilmore, Ogee Handz, Cedric Brown, Jay Kurzweil, and GP808 & Hottrak.
Bas calls Last Winter a conceptual project about hoping to break away from tough times. "Ced Brown and I would be recording in my basement and it's cold and we're broke. When we would make a hot record, we would look at each other and say 'last winter,' like 'this is our last winter. We are not going to be living like this anymore. We're going to elevate our situation.' It became a self-fulfilling prophecy."
Born in Paris to Sudanese parents, Bas moved to Queens, NY at the age of eight and has been making music since 2010 under the watch of mentor and close friend Cole. His "Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. II" in 2013 was named one of the Top 20 mixtapes of the year by Source magazine. Bas was then featured on "New York Times" with 50 Cent on Born Sinner and appeared with Cole on "Hell's Kitchen" for DJ Khaled's Suffering from Success. He has performed on Cole's Dollar and A Dream Tour, opened for Cole and Wale on the American leg of the What Dreams May Come Tour, and traveled as Cole's international supporting act. When Dreamville, one of hip-hop's most innovative and creative collectives, formed an exclusive label with Interscope Records earlier this year, Bas was announced as the company's first signing.
