SF Museum of the African Diaspora Welcomes PUSH Dance Company

Point Shipyard Project On Stage March 29-30, 1pm and 3pm Daily

SAN FRANCISCO, March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- San Francisco's Museum of the African Diaspora (www.moadsf.org) is pleased to announce the return of PUSH Dance Company for the ninth season on March 29 and 30. PUSH will present the premiere of Point Shipyard Project, a dance installation featuring movement, music, spoken word and video that showcases the ongoing challenges of living in proximity to the toxic Hunters Point Naval Shipyard as long-term cleanup of the radio-active contaminated site continues.

"This is a vibrant, exciting and electric youth performance held on the staircase of our museum," said Linda Harrison, Executive Director of MoAD. "PUSH expertly expresses the topic of the toxic shipyard clean-up through the integration of multi-media platforms and modern dance choreography."

The contemporary dance project takes a close look at the complexities of youth growing up in and around the shipyard's hazardous site, named in 1989 as a Superfund clean-up project. Under the direction of award-winning choreographer Raissa Simpson, PUSH's Point Shipyard Project opens the discussion through powerful performance on race relations and environmental gentrification within the boundaries of this particular site. The program features original sound score by 3(rd) Street Youth Center and Clinic. Simpson founded PUSH in 2005.

PUSH will present two performances daily at MoAD at 1pm and 3pm, Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30. Tickets range from $10 to $25, and can be purchased at http://push.eventbrite.com or www.pushdance.org. MoAD is located at 685 Mission Street in San Francisco.
