MAXISAT Selects ARRIS GT-3 Transcoder to Power its Multiscreen Content Hub on a Global Stage

MAXISAT Selects ARRIS GT-3 Transcoder to Power its Multiscreen Content Hub on a Global Stage

Enabling the next era of multiscreen entertainment through unmatched transcoding efficiency

LONDON, March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TV Connect -- MAXISAT, a leading provider of managed and operated Multiscreen TV services, has selected the GT-3 Multiple Bitrate (MBR) Transcoder by ARRIS Group, Inc.(NASDAQ: ARRS) as the default transcoder for the international expansion of its Content Hub - a integral component of its end-to-end multiscreen video solution, MAXICASTER. As a result, international service providers and broadcasters can now rapidly introduce online multiscreen services without the traditional complexity and cost associated with multiscreen infrastructure, operations, and content distribution.

MAXISAT recognized the growing trend in multiscreen video consumption and tapped ARRIS to deliver a technology solution that could scale to the variety of video data rates and resolutions needed to match the dynamic bandwidth of unmanaged networks. The ARRIS GT-3 gives MAXISAT an efficient and reliable video transcoding solution for the anytime, anywhere, any-device environment of today's multiscreen services.

MAXISAT integrated the ARRIS GT-3 into its Content Hub to allow it to host and operate infrastructure on behalf of service providers, yielding significant cost and bandwidth savings. The GT-3's high throughput capacity merges industry-leading channel density with low power consumption to empower MAXISAT to provide higher-quality video using the same amount of bandwidth, or deliver the same video quality at much lower bitrates - a key consideration for bandwidth-constrained networks.

"With our MAXICASTER solution and Content Hub, MAXISAT can now directly address one of the traditional challenges faced by Service Providers and Broadcasters entering the online multiscreen domain: delivering tomorrow's entertainment experiences on today's networks," said Tommi Blom, CEO MAXISAT. "By offering full end-to-end multiscreen capabilities, which are managed on behalf of our customers, we can help Service Providers avoid the risk associated with service launches and build the foundation for sustainable delivery."

The success of the Content Hub led MAXISAT to commence work to incorporate the ARRIS GT-3 as the pre-selected transcoder as part of its international expansion of the MAXICASTER solution.

"Making this service a reality requires technology which is up to the task. The unmatched transcoding capabilities offered by the ARRIS GT-3 allowed us to address the multiscreen requirements of our customers with a quality of experience which is second to none. When combined within our hosted and operated service, we believe our new MAXICASTER solution empowers us to take a unique position in the managed TV service market," continued Blom.

"MAXISAT is a forward-thinking company that knows how to meet increasing consumer demand for a varied and convenient video content experience - both today and in the future," said Steve McCaffery, Senior Vice President, EMEA & Asia Pacific, ARRIS. "Our GT-3 solution bolsters MAXISAT's capabilities for greater bandwidth optimization, enabling it to deliver a wider range of multiscreen content to service providers -- ultimately enabling consumers to enjoy their media, their way."
