Indie Filmmaker Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for Production of Dysfunctional Congress Documentary
"Acts of Congress" expected to encourage Americans to become more involved in the political process and increase voter turnout
LOS ANGELES, March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- After 25 years working in Hollywood, veteran filmmaker Jon Scheide is launching an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to finance his upcoming documentary Acts of Congress. The film, which Scheide has been developing for the last 5 years, offers what he describes as "a darkly humorous and disquieting" approach to "examining the worst Congress in American history." It aspires to entertain through biting humor following the model of Jon Stewart or Bill Maher, but more importantly to expose modern Congressional hypocrisies and to encourage Americans to express their outrage through participation in the historically poorly-attended mid-term elections. The filmmaker's goal is to create a non-fiction chronicle of Congressional absurdities that will propel voters from their couches to the polls. The Acts of Congress team will launch support materials and a social media campaign advocating voter turnout in the lead-up to the film's release.

Scheide has already secured many resources through his professional network and the power of the film's ideas, but he is looking to raise $80,000 in 30 days to cover physical production costs. He has decided to forego traditional funding options in favor of crowdfunding in order to ensure that investors don't control the film's messaging and that it can be released at minimal costs, physically and digitally, to reach the widest possible audience. Acts of Congress brings attention to the dark realities of both parties' failures in Congress, as well as the need for voters of all beliefs to get involved in the political process.
The Indiegogo campaign launches Wednesday, 26 March 2014 and will be active until 24 April 2014. Visit the site at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/acts-of-congress to learn more and to donate. You are also encouraged to share your stories about your experiences with our dysfunctional Congress on the film's Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ pages.
