Columbus Poised to Create First Fashion and Music Festival - Labor Day 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fashion Meets Music Festival, FMMF, has announced Labor Day weekend (August 29th-31st) 2014 as the date of its inaugural festival in Columbus, Ohio. The three day event debuts a unique combination, fusing two complementary art forms, music and fashion, together as one entertainment platform experience. "Events like FMMF reinforce the authentic, fun spirit of our city" said Brian Ross, Experience Columbus President & CEO, "bringing national music acts and fashion designers into one location for three days is a great way to showcase Columbus."

"Fashion and music have always influenced one another - from Elvis' blue suede shoes and The Ramones' iconic leather jackets, to Gaga's outlandish gear and Daft Punk's robo-wear, fashion and music inspire and further each other's expressions," said FMMF Communications Director, Melissa Dickson.

The festival will feature seven indoor and outdoor stages, 250 musical performances, two fashion stages complete with runways, an urban campground, and a 118,000 square foot fashion and music marketplace in the Columbus Convention Center. The Arena District is home to Nationwide Arena, the LC Pavilion, Huntington Park, Nationwide Boulevard, and McFerson Commons - all are participating in the unique festival. Nationwide Blvd. (High St. to Neil Ave.) will be transformed into a streetscape of various cuisine and beverage selections; complete with gourmet food trucks, aerial zip lines, and one of North America's largest Gondolas, towering 100 feet tall.

"This is an exciting and unparalleled festival footprint," said Greg Poppel, Director of Operations. "It's unique in that it isn't in a field or a designated area, it resides in the crosshairs of the 15th largest city in the United States. Operationally, we are consummating a new experience for Columbus combining retail, fashion, and music as a collaboration - all in one place, at one time."

Created by music and fashion insiders, FMMF hopes to help brand Columbus as the Midwest's music and retail fashion leader, much like Austin has been crowned an emerging music mecca and showcase for new talent development with the SXSW Festival.

The initial musical and fashion line-ups will be announced in the coming weeks with new musical artists, designers, and retailers named as they join the festival.
