Episode 7 Recap

The Top 11 home cooks were surprised to find a childhood photo of
themselves in their third Mystery Box, with instructions to cook from
their youth, background, and heritage for the challenge. Eric handily
won the challenge, with some of his rival home cooks executing their
dishes with serious lapses in judgment - including Carly, who wound up
mistaking one meat for another, and plating a raw eye of round roast as
a result. Eric's reward was getting to choose the protein the remaining
home cooks had to work with in the elimination challenge. Despite
providing difficult ingredients like brain and tongue to Danielle and
Kaila - the latter of whom Eric has a growing rivalry with week after
week - those two home cooks do well in the challenge. Kaila emerges the
victor, and she and runner-up Pino will be captains in the next team
challenge. And ironically, despite Eric paying a favour back to Dora
for saving him from the last pressure test by assigning a less
complicated cut of beef, she doesn't do well with the easy ingredient
she's given, and is eliminated.

MASTERCHEF CANADA airs Mondays at 8 p.m./7 p.m. CT on CTV and CTV GO (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Last night's episode is now
available on demand at CTV.ca and the CTV GO app.
