Twisted Version of Pop Hit "Royals" Trades Teen Angst for Adult Reality

Twisted Version of Pop Hit "Royals" Trades Teen Angst for Adult Reality

Molly Dworsky produces, directs, writes and performs in new viral video

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It seems a lot of people have had enough of Lorde's teen angst for a while and are embracing Molly Dworsky's jaded adult version of the song. They've been watching (and sharing) her playful parody, creating a YouTube frenzy which has no end in sight!

The video looks and sounds remarkably like the original, and so does Dworsky herself. The twist is that "Getting old is so unfair!" in contrast to Lorde's unattainable queen bee fantasy.

The tongue in cheek humor and candid introspection provide a hilarious look at the realities of adulthood. At times she shares almost too much information (you'll have to listen for yourself - no spoilers)!

Dworsky's new lyrics ring true for anyone past the age of 25, reflecting on the innocence and ignorance which make up the bliss that is the high school experience. They go on to lament the aging process, "real responsibilities" and other surprises we were never expecting as we were coming of age.

Dworsky hails from Hopkins, Minnesota, where the high school sports teams are coincidentally called "Royals." Her alma mater serves as a backdrop for much of the video.

The multitalented artist served as producer, director, writer and performer. She shared some of her inspiration for the parody, saying, "Having been a 'Royal' at Hopkins High, I was tickled by the song's personal connection, thinking about how funny it was that I actually WAS a Royal, and that I'd never be one again, and that Lorde IS in high school, and is actually going to be royalty in the music scene now."

Ironies abound, as we all learn as we grow older. Dworsky surely has a clever and entertaining way of showing it. It's no wonder this video is being shared all over!
