Profound indie filmmaking trio tackle child abuse in upcoming New York City thriller 'The Redeemer'

Profound indie filmmaking trio tackle child abuse in upcoming New York City thriller 'The Redeemer'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - Amy Morrison Williams, Danijela Jasprica and Danielle James are
announcing they are now in development on "The Redeemer," a socially
conscious independent feature film that's slated to shoot in New York
City and release later this year.

Written and directed by Williams ("My Blood" and "The Morrison
Project"), "The Redeemer" follows the interweaving stories of wildcard
detective Sam Carter, the neighborhood savior, Una, who runs a
nonprofit clinic to help homeless teens and impoverished families,
Gabriel Kessler, a philosophy professor with a dark zeal who educates
with unprecedented conviction, and Damaris, a Puerto Rican with a
complex personality tucked behind her tough exterior.

When a group of snuff porn kingpins go on trial, the characters are
brought together and find they have more in common than they'd ever
imagined. Deadly secrets surface and a terrifying five-day killing
spree erupts, but no one knows who is responsible. Sam and his partner,
Joey, must track a killer in an adrenaline-fueled race to bring
justice.

"These topics are hard to swallow," said Williams. "Because we avoid
them, they continue to get worse. If I can bring a sense of validation
and expose this evil, that alone brings some freedom for those who have
suffered. I believe showing the brutal human struggle with these
issues, emotionally and dramatically on the big screen will bring
healing."

Jasprica is a German model-turned-producer with a busy production slate
also including the feature films "Beyond the Moonwalk: A Dream to
Dance" and "Boy 23." She's previously worked in production on "Croatian
Idol," "Croatian Top Model" and "Croatian Dinner for Five." Jasprica
helped produce a Herbalife Cosmetics commercial campaign and live
events including regional beauty competitions in Croatia.

She says, "We are talking about every way of child abuse - beating,
humiliation, sexual abuse, raping, kidnapping, children´s pornography
and even murder. You have every year more like 300,000 minor children
only in Germany who are abused. That means every two minutes one child
is abused and the saddest part is only 16,000 have a police report."

James, renowned actress and producer of the forthcoming "Mother's Day"
film starring Christina Ricci, Sharon Stone, Susan Sarandon and Eva
Amurri Martino, is producing and playing Lola in "The Redeemer."

Joining her are actors Sheryl Lee ("Winter's Bone), Falk Hentschel
("White House Down"), two-time Emmy winner Cady McClain ("Home Movie"),
Angelica Page ("The Sixth Sense"), Mark Jeffrey Miller ("Cold
Mountain") and Emmy nominee Jon Lindstrom ("Must Love Dogs"). Casting
the remaining principal roles is ongoing.

"We already have some big sponsors like Volkswagen and Lexus," Jasprica
said. "The thing is if you are telling this story through a film you
can reach more people, adults, parents, children and young adults. With
this, they will get the information in an entertaining way, not the way
with turning on the news or reading newspapers. The problem is this
topic is not so much in the news and newspapers like it would need to
be."

Williams' Little Voice Films is behind the project and proceeds will go
towards children's programs everywhere.
