EXPERT ALERTS:

How to Live Frugally

Brenda Hendrickson

Certified Senior Advisor and Author

Brenda Hendrickson, CSA

"Bottom line is: spend less than you make and save the rest. Frugal millionaires buy with quality in mind and what they can comfortably afford. They know the difference between price and value. A 'frugal mindset' attitude becomes a lifestyle habit. Frugal millionaires look for value, resist impulse buying, know where their money goes, and make their own luck -- the frugal way. Wealth building starts with a frugal plan. A frugal millionaire knows his/her current financial position. They make the necessary adjustments to their plan to achieve their goals."

Hendrickson is available to discuss specific strategies on how to live frugally in these economic times. She is an accountant and tax preparer, and also the author of "How To Be A Frugal Millionaire: Eight Simple Steps to Creating Personal Wealth."

Analyzing Product Placement Values

Eric Smallwood

Senior Vice President

Front Row Analytics

"Product placement as a marketing strategy is becoming more popular than ever, now that consumers have more ways to skip through commercial breaks. But marketers and advertisers still need to decide which programs will give them the most bang for their buck."

Smallwood is senior vice president of Front Row Analytics, which helps brands and sponsors determine product placement/integration values for TV and film. He is widely regarded as an expert in the fields of marketing and sale of naming rights, sponsorships, premium seating sales, sponsorship evaluations and advertising partnerships. He has been responsible for some of Front Row's groundbreaking work in sponsorship and naming rights evaluation for some of the world's biggest properties, ranging from projects with NASCAR and golf, to movie and television product placement. Perhaps his biggest area of expertise is in the evaluation of collegiate commercial rights, one of Front Row's fastest growing divisions. Prior to his current role, Smallwood has led team projects in the areas of marketing and sponsorship evaluation analysis. He is based in Detroit, MI.

Data Finds Slowing U.S. Nursing Enrollment

Darlene Curley, MS, RN

Executive Director

The Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence

"According to new data, 2013 marked the lowest enrollment increase (only 2.6 percent) in professional registered nurse (RN) programs in the past five years. This increase is woefully inadequate to replace the number of nursing faculty retiring in the next ten years. If this trend continues, it will have a severe negative impact on our aging population and the millions of baby boomers who will need increased nursing care in the near future."

Curley MS, RN, executive director of the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, is available to discuss implications of the troubling survey data released last week by The American Association of Colleges of Nursing(AACN). Curley joined the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence in 2009, bringing extensive experience as a health policy leader, entrepreneur, leadership consultant, workforce expert and registered nurse.

Relationships/Sex Advice for Valentine's Day

Dr. Kat Van Kirk

Sexpert/Couple Therapist

"I recommend taking Valentine's Day back from the over-commercialization and hype and making it your own, personal celebration of the love you have for your partner. Make it heart-felt and don't get caught up the amount you spend, but instead take the time to tell your partner why you treasure them as much as you do."

Van Kirk received her doctorate in human sexuality/clinical sexology from the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco. She runs the website for Dr. Kat and is the resident expert for the adult products website, Adam and Eve. She also is an associate professor at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco and an adjunct professor at Akamai University in Hilo, HI. She has been listening and giving couples sex advice for nearly two decades. Having been through a divorce herself, she is now happily married and a mother to two girls -- which makes her relatable when giving advice.

Beatles' Influence on Globalization in Modern Era

Michael Weis

Beatles Expert, Professor of History

Illinois Wesleyan University

"Although economists wouldn't use the term until the 1980s, 'globalization' certainly describes a cross-cultural phenomenon that both influenced The Beatles and allowed them to influence many others. Their introduction to America occurred on Feb. 9, 1964, with their appearance on 'The Ed Sullivan Show.' The Fab Four soon made a tremendous impact on attitudes toward fashion, religion, war, drug use and gender relations, among others. This influence was global in scope, crossing racial, generational and political boundaries."

Weis is also available to discuss how the mantle of "youth icon" transferred from President Kennedy, assassinated just a few months prior, to The Beatles, making them trendsetters and empowering both women and youth. This empowerment facilitated those rebellions in the later part of the decade.

2014 Healthcare Concerns

Julie Chase

President and CEO

Chase Communications

"Our recent survey of more than 1,000 Americans nationwide shows that the current focus of the healthcare debates has emphasized cost concerns and thus less attention to urgent issues that will impact Americans' health and well-being now and over the course of their entire lives, including care for chronic diseases, quality of life, aging parents and end of life care."

Chase is president of Chase Communications, a national public relations and health policy communications firm. She is available to discuss implications of Americans' beliefs and attitudes about healthcare for health policy and advocacy.

Flu Prevention in the Workplace

Sean Kajcienski

Chief Sales Officer

Coverall Health-Based Cleaning System

"The most common way germs spread is by hand-to-face transmission, which makes the workplace a perfect environment for flu viruses. Flu season in the United States can begin as early as October, but often runs as late as May so it's especially important to keep up cleanliness during that part of the year. Phones, desks, telephones and computer keyboards are touched hundreds of times throughout the day, and the average phone has 400 times more germs than a toilet seat. This makes it very important to properly disinfect your work area frequently, since flu viruses can live on surfaces for up to four days - the old way of cleaning with string mops, upright vacuums and cotton rags doesn't work. In fact, those old techniques can actually make the problem worse by spreading germs throughout your facility."

Kajcienski is an expert on flu prevention and how to best remove germs from workplace environments.
