Chabot Space & Science Center hosts the 6th Annual Bay Area International Children's Film Festival

A weekend of film presentations and cinema education workshops

OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Chabot Space & Science Center has partnered with The Bay Area International Children's Film Festival (BAICFF) to screen cinematic pieces and host engaging film education workshops specifically for the young and the young at heart. The two-day family film festival runs Saturday, January 25(th) through Sunday, January 26(th).

Toted as a festival where "education and imagination collide," the event presents animated, live-action, short and feature length films. The festival attracts submissions from the international community, culminating in a full line-up of high-quality, family-friendly, culturally-diverse films. Almost 50 films will screen in the Center's full-dome planetarium and IMAX style theatre, including shorts like Hello Kitty in Space a school project that went viral in 2013 by Antioch resident Lauren Rojas, to feature films, like Wallace and Gromit in: A Grand Day Out.

The weekend will also include hands-on cinema workshops. Berkeley Community College will run animation, pixilation, and claymation workshops and will screen some of their creations during the fest. Additional artists include: Mat Jones, who will run a sketching workshop, and HowTunes, who will guide zoetrope building.

Founded as a school fundraiser by Pixar Story Artist, Jim Capobianco, the festival has grown over the years and was looking to stretch its wings, so reached out to partner with Chabot Space & Science Center. The Center has been a leader in offering engaging STEM and STEAM activities in the community for many decades. Home to activities, classes, and exhibits that cater to both youth and adults, Chabot is poised to host an event of this nature which turns interest and inquest into experiential exploration guided by leaders and innovators in the industry.

The festival runs January 25 & 26, 2014. Chabot Space & Science Center has a full-dome planetarium and IMAX-style theatre available for screening so visitors can expect a fully immersive feel.
