Ed Helms, Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll and Jordan Peele Help Eccentric Superhero Foil Evil Archenemy Plot
GLENDALE, Calif., Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Some real-life comedy superheroes - Ed Helms, Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll and Jordan Peele - are joining forces in DreamWorks Animations upcoming feature film, Captain Underpants. These award-winning voice talents will help Captain Underpants once again save the day as everyone's favorite waistband warrior takes to the big screen for some seriously comedic crime fighting action.
"These actors are some of the funniest around today," said director, Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens, Gulliver's Travel). "Letting them loose with these characters is sure to be a hysterical ride."
Captain Underpants is based on Dav Pilkey's popular book series and centers around two scheming fourth graders, George Beard (Kevin Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Thomas Middleditch) whose personal missions are to play pranks, hide in their secret treehouse and write comic books. But when they accidentally bring their favorite comic book character, Captain Underpants, to life through a hypnosis accident involving their megalomaniacal principal Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms), their elementary school life becomes anything but elementary. Rounding out the cast will be Jordan Peele who will voice Melvin, the nerdy nemesis of George and Harold, and Nick Kroll as the insidious villain, Professor Poopypants.
Since 1997, 10 Captain Underpants books have been released in over 20 languages with over 70 million books in print worldwide. The series has debuted at No. 1 on various best seller lists including The New York Times, USA Today and Publisher's Weekly. Three more books are planned through 2016.
Nick Stoller (The Muppets) is on board to pen the script and Damon Ross will oversee the film for the studio.
