The campaign forms part of Vme's larger goal to educate Hispanic Americans about the issues that impact their daily lives. A recent study done by AT&T shows that Hispanic teens 15-19 years old were "much less prone to recognize the dangers of texting while stopped at a red light or glancing at their phone while driving."
"Hispanic youth stand to play such an important role in this country over the next one or two decades and it is our duty as a community that we ensure their health, education and safety," said Vme TV CEO, Eligio Cedeno. "Working together with leaders in the Latino community is one of the best ways to help get this message across to our youth."
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, in 2012 alone, 3,328 people were killed in distracted driving crashes. The continuing rise in these numbers has taken center stage in the media, and has prompted legislation preventing the use of mobile devices while driving in various states.
The list of participating celebrities also includes: Arcangel, Angelica Castro, Chef Hamlet Garcia, Minerva Borjas, Grupomania, Annabelle Blum, Miguelito, Alexa Vega, Horoscopos de Durango, Agueda Lopez, Pee Wee, Alexis Valdes, Marian de la Fuente, Maffio, Jon Secada, Gaby Acuna, Bonka, Custo Barcelona, Jordi Molla, Kenny Williams, Rigu, JEO Music, Irma Martinez, Manolo Cardona, Roberto Manrique, Siudy Garrido, Tommy Torres, Luis Rollan, Saul Lisazo, Reunion Nortena, Carolina Cruz, Camila Canabal, the cast of the film 'Pulling Strings', Omar Chaparro, Jaime Camil, el ex-Menudo Rene Farrait, El Grupo Vena, Marger, Kingz One, and Rodolfo Jimenez.
