Twelve Executives To Receive 2014 Multicultural TV Leadership Awards

NEW YORK, Dec. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News have announced the 12 winners of the Multicultural TV Leadership Awards, which will be presented at a luncheon ceremony during the Multicultural TV Summit on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. The Awards recognize business executives who have contributed to the sustainable growth of multicultural TV--defined as video intended for an audience segment of a specific ethnicity, nationality, region, gender, religious affiliation or LGBT lifestyle.
Candidates were submitted within several categories and were scored by a panel of impartial judges. The winners are those who received the highest collective score by category. Consumer Marketing Executive (Programmer): Vicky Free, Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, BET Networks
Consumer Marketing Executive (Provider): Alessandra Otero-Reiss, Vice President, Relationship Marketing, Time Warner Cable
Advertising Sales Executive: Mike Rosen, Executive Vice President of Advertising Sales, Telemundo Media
Media Planning Executive: Silvia Garcia, Vice President of Media Planning and Multiplatform Strategy, Univision Communications Inc.
Account Management Executive: Cesar Sroka, Group Account Director, OMD Multicultural, OMD
Programming Distribution Executive: Timothy Boell, SVP Content Distribution & Marketing, Asia TV USA Ltd.
Programming Acquisition Executive: Freddy Rolon, Vice-President, Deportes Programming & Business Units, ESPN
Audience Development/Tune-in Promotions Executive: Kim Bondy, Senior Executive Producer, America Tonight, Al Jazeera America.
The selection process was based on the collective scores submitted by the following 10 judges, each of whom is noteworthy in one or more multicultural segments:
On-air Entertainment: Anjula Acharia Bath, CEO of Desi Hits!, and Cristina Saralegui, journalist, television personality and host of "Cristina Entre Amigos" on Cristina Radio/SiriusXM channel 153
Religious affiliation: Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III pastor of the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City and president of the State University of New York College at Old Westbury, and Rabbi Dr. Marc A. Gellman, Ph.D., a syndicated columnist ("God Squad"), as well as senior rabbi of Temple Beth Torah in Melville, Long Island
International Relations: Ambassador Sandra Fuentes-Berain, Consul General of Mexico in New York
The LGBT Community: Wade Davis, a former pro football player who is now executive director of the "You Can Play Project," and Dave Montez, Acting President of GLAAD
Multicultural Marketing: Eliot Kang, founder of the Asian American agency Kang & Lee and CEO of INMOST Partners LLC.; Bob Kumaki, author of "Many Cultures One Market: A Guide to Understanding Opportunities in The Asian Pacific Market" and the managing principal of The Ronin Group; and Pepper Miller, co-author of "What's Black About It" and "Black Still Matters in Marketing" and president of the Hunter-Miller Group
