ViendoMovies Gives An Inside Look To Morelia

Mexican Cinema in 2013

MIAMI, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ViendoMovies attended the prestigious 11(th) annual Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). The festival, which began as a Mexican Short Film Forum in 1994, has now achieved great recognition in Mexico and internationally, for its unique selection of films, and more importantly, as the springboard for Mexican filmmakers worldwide.

ViendoMovies in its mission to bring the best of Spanish language film to its audience, supports events and festivals in Mexico, the US, Canada and Europe by covering and sponsoring events such as this. During November, the channel will air exclusive interviews with some of the filmmakers whose work made up this year's Official Selection, as well as highlights of the festival's red carpets.

The festival had its opening night with the Mexican premiere of Alfonso Cuaron's blockbuster film, "Gravity". "Morelia is a fundamental destination in the festival circuit," said Cuaron during an interview in the red carpet. The film, which has been a box office hit world wide, had its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The festival's top prize, Best Mexican Feature Film, went to "Workers" by Jose Luis Valle, ratifying its win at the Guadalajara International Film Festival where it also took top prize. Shot in Tijuana, it takes a look at the lives of an ex-couple, Lidia and Rafael just as they plan to retire and hopefully build a better life.

"La jaula de oro" (The golden cage), by Diego Quemada-Diez, won the Audience and Press Awards as well as Best First or Second Mexican Feature Film. "The principal motivation for this film was to shed light on the plight of Mexican and Central American undocumented immigrant as they try to reach the United States," stated the director in an exclusive interview.
