Software Defined Radio not Dead, According to Leading Experts

Software Defined Radio not Dead, According to Leading Experts

LONDON, November 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Software Defined Radio programmes are alive and well, according to a leading panel of
experts who were questioned on the state of the sector ahead of Defence IQ's Software
Defined Radio conference.

The conference, taking place between 2 and 4 December 2013, will be addressing
challenges standing in the way of a truly interconnected and interoperable battle network
and providing solutions in order to overcome these capability gaps.

With questions being raised on the survivability of current Software Defined Radio
programmes, Dr Peter Sevenich, CoNSIS Director Fraunhofer FKIE, explained that software
defined radio programmes are ongoing: "After progressing again on the curve of
enlightenment, SDR Technology has now reached a realistic plateau of productivity. It is
closing capability gaps in challenging areas for NEC like interoperability and networking
in the mobile wireless tactical domain."

The full article discussing whether Software Defined Radio is really dead is available
to download online at http://www.sdrueurope.com. Here, you will also be able to view
the full speaker line-up and conference agenda.

With $4 billion being spent commercially in Software Defined Radio programmes in
2012*, for the first time in the SDR series, you will be able to engage in discussions
about how public safety and commercial sectors can provide success stories of
interoperability, with a major briefing on London 2012 tactical communications from the
Metropolitan Police.

Moreover, as further evidence that SDR is alive, the conference will also provide
understanding of how programmes such as ESSOR and ETSI are developing new standards and
architectures to establish an improved link between SDR hardware and software.
