"Slice of Biracial Life" Film "Mulatto Diaries" to Premiere at Bahamas Film Festival

NEW YORK, Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Juliette Fairley's short films Diary of a Mulatto Bride and Mulatto Diaries provide viewers with a slice of bi-racial life much like newly elected New York Mayor de Blasio's family.

Miss Fairley is the director and producer of a series of short films about being bi-racial in America that features a black father and white mother and their bi-racial son and daughter.

"The bi-racial lifestyle is here to stay and very popular right now," said Fairley. "I am pleased with Bill de Blasio's win. It adds another layer to the existing dialogue in the world about being bi-racial or married interracially."

Two of Fairley's most recent films are screening at the Bahamas International Film Festival on Saturday, December 7, 2013.

A previous short Mulatto's Dilemma has won awards at the New York International Film Festival, the Red Hook Film Festival and the Poconos Mountain Film Festival in 2012. A 90 page screenplay that the actress and writer wrote about her interracial parents was a finalist in the 2013 Sundance Screenwriter's Lab.

"Being married interracially or to be the child of interracial parents is a unique experience," said Fairley. "When I was growing up, it wasn't so common. These days interracial families are increasingly reflected in the news, which makes me feel more accepted socially."

When Fairley began producing her films and selling them on amazon.com to fill a demand for content that handles interracial marriages and biracial people, the Pasadena Star News' reporter Michelle Mills took notice and published a story.

Fairley herself is the bi-racial daughter of an African American soldier and white French mother who met and married in France during the reconstruction of Paris after American troops liberated Europe from the Nazis. Miss Fairley's first biracial slice of life film Mulatto Saga was syndicated nationally on cable networks and network affiliates by Badami Productions in 2012.

"My daughter, Francesca, is from a mixed marriage so it's something I'm not unfamiliar with," said Badami, who is Italian. "Mulatto Saga has a soap opera feel to it and tugs at people where they want to know what's going to happen."
