AXS TV Presents 'My Days In Dallas: A Remembrance With Dan Rather' - A One-Hour Retrospective Commemorating The 50th Anniversary Of President John F. Kennedy's Assassination On Mon., Nov. 18 at 8 P.M. ET/5 P.M. PT

Special Report Is A First-Hand Account As Told By Rather Who Was The First To Confirm JFK's Death And The First To Report On The Zapruder Film

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AXS TV's Emmy® Award-winning journalist and news anchor Dan Rather returns to the scene of one of the most tragic events in American history, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, for a network special commemorating the 50(th) anniversary of JFK's death in MY DAYS IN DALLAS: A REMEMBRANCE WITH DAN RATHER. The retrospective will premiere Mon., Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT), followed by encore broadcasts on Fri., Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT), 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) and 12:30 a.m. ET (9:30 p.m. PT) as well as Sun., Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT) on AXS TV.

The special is a first-hand report of events occurring that day, Nov. 22, 1963, as told by a young correspondent (Rather), who was on the ground covering JFK's trip to Dallas and was literally steps away from the scene.

Rather, who is the host and managing editor of AXS TV's DAN RATHER REPORTS, remains one of the few living news reporters who were on the ground in Dallas covering the tragedy. In this special report, Rather provides a personal, behind-the-scenes account of the details surrounding President Kennedy's Dallas visit; press procedures covering the event; and being one of the first to see The Zapruder Film, a home movie shot in color by private citizen Abraham Zapruder.

Also, Rather will walk the audience through a sequence of events involving the reporting of Kennedy's death and how he became the first press member to confirm it to CBS News, approximately 20 minutes before the official announcement from The White House.

"I haven't visited Dealey Plaza in over two decades before taping this special on Nov. 6," said Rather upon his visit. "I was there for the 25(th) Anniversary of this fateful date, and I just couldn't bring myself to come back to this spot. It was a tragic event to cover as a newsman and as an American citizen. That was my President and here I was at my news bureau having to hear that he died over a phone call and then report that to the world. There are few words to express what I was feeling that day while professionally having to keep my composure and of sound mind."

Rather continued, "I was a young reporter covering a country struggling to live up to its ideals of liberty and justice for all - there was already so much uncertainty about America's future before President Kennedy stepped out of Air Force One onto the tarmac of Love Field. This special will follow, to the best of my recollection, the events as they unfolded and how that horrific day shaped this country for decades to come."

The award-winning journalist not only speaks as reporter, but emotionally as a citizen in this AXS TV hour-long special. He will outline his day's routine and comment on what is called the 'Four Dark Days' in Dallas - from Friday's shooting through Monday's burial. His timeline will also include these noteworthy facts:

-- Rather called Parkland Hospital and received verification of Kennedy's
death from a priest and an emergency room physician.
-- He was shown the Zapruder Film in order to bid on it for CBS News, along
with Time-Life Magazine. Rather could only watch it once and afterward
he rushed back to Dallas CBS bureau to provide a detailed report on-air.
CBS did not win the bid for the film.
-- Rather believes there was one gun, one shooter in Lee Harvey Oswald and
that Oswald acted alone.

In this clip, Rather, who was stationed on the motorcade route just past Dealey Plaza on Nov. 22, 1963, describes the scene as the President's limousine speeds past him with a wounded JFK inside.
