The Royalty Exchange Announces Exclusive Auction Of Coolio Catalog, Featuring Smash Hit "Gangsta's Paradise"

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Royalty Exchange, the world's first online platform for the valuation and sale of music royalties, today announced the upcoming auction of the full song portfolio of legendary rapper and five-time Grammy winner, Coolio, including his chart-topping international hit, "Gangsta's Paradise." The Royalty Exchange is encouraging interested bidders to log in for details while registration remains open.

Beginning on Aug. 28 at 12 p.m. ET and ending on Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. ET, Coolio will offer the performance royalties of his entire song catalog for auction. The catalog consists of 123 songs from eight different albums and includes all of his top hits - from the Billboard #1 smash "Gangsta's Paradise" (which became one of the best-selling singles of all time after being featured in the blockbuster film Dangerous Minds) to other top tracks such as "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)," "Too Hot," "C U When U Get There," and "Fantastic Voyage" (which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1994). The catalog is being sold directly from the artist and bidding will start at $140,000.

Following an appearance on Food Network's Celebrity Chefs, the rapper-turned-media entrepreneur launched a career as a popular author and chef. His 2009 cookbook Cookin' with Coolio became a New York Times bestseller and Coolio plans to invest the funds from the song catalog sale to expand his cookbook series and his online cooking show of the same name.

"The Coolio song catalog auction is an exciting and rare opportunity for anyone looking for an alternative investment in music publishing and songwriter royalties," said Sean Peace, CEO of The Royalty Exchange. "We are thrilled to be able to offer royalties attached to such an iconic artist, and to assist interested parties in the research, registration and bidding process." Peace added that anyone can register and watch the bidding unfold as the auctions get underway.

Additional upcoming auctions from The Royalty Exchange include tracks from the catalog of songwriter Edmund Clement, featuring hits recorded by Usher, TLC, Tomcraft, Boyz II Men and Chris Brown, plus music from Grammy nominee Sheldon Reynolds.
