The Echo Nest Expands to Latin America and Strikes Partnership with Boinc

Pre-Paid Music for Samsung Galaxy S3 Smartphones

SOMERVILLE, Mass., July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Echo Nest, the industry's leading music intelligence company, continues its international expansion by providing rich music information and local music understanding to boinc, the first free and unlimited life-of-a-device streaming music service to launch exclusively in Venezuela.

Boinc comes preinstalled on every Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini sold in Venezuela by Movistar, a leading cellular carrier owned by Telefonica, with instant playlisting and music information from The Echo Nest.

"It's exciting to broaden The Echo Nest's reach and work with boinc to bring Venezuelans a highly personalized and regionalized listening experience through our deep understanding of music content and music fans around the globe," said Jim Lucchese, CEO of The Echo Nest. "As we continue our global expansion, we see Latin America as a priority growth market."

Boinc's music app relies on The Echo Nest for its best-in-class music discovery solution and accompanying in-depth contextual music information. One such music discovery feature is an 'instant playlist' capability. These instant playlists, called "boinc lists," are based on any artist, track, or album on the service, informed by The Echo Nest's unparalleled regional music understanding. This unique ability applies a global understanding of music, with regionalized results for any particular region (in this case, Venezuela), and heavily emphasizes localized music discovery.

"The Echo Nest is one of the best platforms to leverage; its API design and documentation are prime examples of how services need to be built for integration," said Dmitry Grinberg, CTO of boinc. "The Echo Nest's capabilities, richness of music data, and overall quality are unmatched in the industry. We have used only a fraction of what they have to offer, and will continue to leverage their platform as we grow and expand."

By combining pre-paid Samsung Galaxy Mini smartphones with the pre-installed boinc music service, Movistar Network offers music fans and smartphone users a first-of-its-kind option, with millions of songs available for no additional cost, and music discovery provided by The Echo Nest for a Venezuelan audience.

As part of a stated commitment to global expansion, this partnership follows The Echo Nest's recent announcement of three music service customers in Norway and The Netherlands (WiMP, Viamo, and Xite), with additional global partnership announcements forthcoming.

About boinc
boinc runs on a groundbreaking business model, replacing paid-download, paid-subscription and advertiser-supported services with an inexpensive, one-time license fee that gives consumers unlimited access to music for the lifetime of a device. The cost of the music is built into the price of the device (or data plan) and not directly paid for by the consumer, solving the growing problem of unpaid music consumption.

boinc is a service created by Gee Beyond Holdings LLC, with headquarters in New York City.
