NSU Alumna Taylor Collins Wins Big Break Mexico

Collins receives exemption to compete on the LPGA Tour at the 2013 Lorena Ochoa Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla., July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Nova Southeastern University Alumna Taylor Collins has won the Golf Channel's hit reality competition, Big Break Mexico, and received an exemption to compete on the LPGA Tour at the 2013 Lorena Ochoa Invitational Nov. 14-17.

Big Break Mexico featured a cast of six men and six women competing in a mixed-gender team format in an attempt to make their lifelong dreams of playing alongside the world's top golfers come true either on the LPGA Tour at the 2013 Lorena Ochoa Invitational or on the PGA Tour at the 2013 OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

In the final phase of the competition, Collins competed against Matthew Galloway of Tampa, Fla., in an 18-hole singles match. Galloway, who attended the University of West Florida, was a three-time Division II All American. Collins received a handful of prizes, including an endorsement contract from Adams Golf and a total of $50,000. Collins has been the most successful competitor on the show, helping her team survive more eliminations than any other group. For her win, every member of Team Maya received a cash prize of $5,000.

Collins also appeared live on the Golf Channel's Morning Drive. If you missed it, check back with www.NSUSharks.com for video clips.

After her win was televised, the Sun Sentinel released a story on Collins penned by outdoors writer Steve Waters. His story can be viewed HERE. Below is an excerpt of what Collins had to say about her win:

-On winning Adams Golf equipment: "I'm using the same clubs I've had for five years. And I've never been fitted for clubs. That's why I went on the show. I'm pretty excited about it."

-On receiving an exemption to the Lorena Ochoa Invitational: "I thought that was the best prize of all."
