DETROIT, July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- WDIV-TV Local 4 today announced that Evrod Cassimy will join the newly named morning newscast, Local 4 News Today, beginning Aug. 12. Cassimy will co-anchor 4:30 a.m. - 7 a.m. weekdays alongside current anchor Rhonda Walker.

Cassimy is currently the morning anchor and reporter for CBS4 News in Denver. There, he has covered several big stories including the Aurora movie theater shootings, Michael Moore's Occupy Denver protests and the Colorado wildfires. He began his career in Grand Junction, Colorado at KJCT News 8 and worked in Madison, Wisconsin; Orlando, Florida; and Richmond, Virginia where he won the Virginia Associated Press Award for "Best Coverage of Breaking News" in 2010.

"We are excited to add Evrod to our Local 4 news team. With Guy Gordon's move to our new 11 a.m. program, Live in the D, we're so happy to complete our morning team of Rhonda Walker, Brandon Roux and Ashlee Baracy," said Kim Voet, Local 4's news director.

Cassimy has Midwest roots. Born in Berrien Springs, Michigan, he grew up just outside of Chicago and graduated from Columbia College.

"Local 4 is known for its passion for journalistic excellence. Becoming part of such an experienced news gathering team is what attracted me to this opportunity.
