AUSTIN, Texas and INDIANAPOLIS, July 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowfly Pictures Entertainment, Through The Fog Pictures and Indiana Black Expo, Inc. (IBE), announced that the mentor themed feature documentary, "DAVE," will be screening as part of IBE's film festival, in partnership with the prestigious Heartland Film Festival. The screening time is 3:00 on Sunday, July 14(th) in the Toby Theater at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Produced from 2006 to 2012, "DAVE" is the hope filled story of Adam "Coach D" Donyes, an unlikely young mentor that uses basketball to shepherd an intellectually disabled African American teen (David "Dave" Sterling) in rural Missouri. In turn, Dave leads Coach D into beginning to heal the broken pieces in his own life and positively impacts an entire community; that was previously predisposed to racism.

Eric Geadelmann, the director & producer of the critically-acclaimed film expressed, "In this beautiful story Adam asks, 'Why do we invest in the lives of others?' I believe this film answers that in a profound and moving way as David Sterling impacts all of us as a result of Coach D pouring his life into him regardless of skin color and perceived 'disabilities.' We get to see another aspect of mentorship."

Grammy Award winning Gospel and Hip Hop artist and producer, LECRAE, whose critically acclaimed music is featured in the film commented, "DAVE is a must see! A true story of reconciliation, selflessness, and the impact we can have on each other's lives when we break through our own walls and comfort zones."

Executive Producer, Toby Mckeehan (aka "TOBYMAC") a multi-platinum and multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter and co-founder of the E.R.A.C.E Foundation, whose most recent album release "Eye On It" had a #1 debut on the Billboard Music Charts and won the Grammy for "Best Contemporary Christian Album," stated, "Our goal is to go beyond just making audiences feel good, but to truly inspire and enable them to be intentional in society - in investing in the lives of others. 'DAVE' points us in that direction."

Stacia Murphy, Cultural Arts Pavilion and Film Fest Coordinator for Indiana Black Expo, Inc. remarked, "I am extremely excited to bring such an encouraging story to our audience and to further strengthen our collaboration with the Heartland Film Festival. Our goal for the film fest is to provide not only thought-provoking stories but also to inspire our attendees. 'DAVE' helps us to do both."

Tim Irwin, the artistic director for the Heartland Truly Moving Pictures said, "Heartland honors films that inspire, educate and engage, and that's exactly why 'DAVE' was chosen as an official selection for last year's Heartland Film Festival."

"DAVE" (www.dave-movie.com) world premiered at the 22(nd) Annual Cinequest Film Festival in 2012 where it won the coveted Kaiser Permanente "Thrive Award" for best/most inspirational picture and has since touched audiences at thirteen international festivals - from London to Los Angeles; Innsbruck to Indianapolis - where it has won numerous Audience Awards and has regularly been a finalist for Jury Awards. The producers are in negotiations with distributors and anticipate a theatrical release in the Spring of 2014.

Indiana Black Expo, Inc. (IBE) (www.indianablackexpo.com) was created during the Post Civil-Rights Movement, establishing a positive structure in the community that reflected African-Americans, which was an important and much needed development. Two years after attending an expo in Chicago, IL, a few religious and civic leaders in the community decided to establish an Indiana based Black Expo. They understood the pressing need to create an avenue to display positive African-American ideas and thus founded the Indiana Black Expo in 1970.

IBE's mission is to be an effective voice and vehicle for the social and economic advancement of African-Americans. Through various symposiums with civic leaders speaking on pressing economic, political and social issues, IBE has strived to address past, present and future issues that face African-Americans and all people alike. The support of popular entertainers and political figures such as Rev. Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds and many more, helps spread the information. IBE has been and will continue to be a major economic and social contributor to Indiana and African-American communities everywhere.

Heartland Truly Moving Pictures, a nonprofit arts organization, seeks to inspire filmmakers and audiences through the transformative power of film. Its flagship event, the Heartland Film Festival®, launched in 1991 and runs each October in Indianapolis, screening independent films from around the world. Each year, the Festival awards more than $125,000 in cash prizes and presents its Festival Awards to the top-judged submissions. Heartland has awarded more than $2.5 million to support filmmakers during the last 20 years. The organization's Truly Moving Picture Award was created to honor films released theatrically that align with Heartland's mission. By bestowing this award seal to honored films, the award allows studios and distributors to inform audiences of a film's transformative power and appeal. Heartland is also dedicated to cultivating youth, and thus created the Heartland Institute to provide innovative educational and outreach programs that enrich the minds and lives of youth and aspiring filmmakers. Heartland shares inspiring films year-round in the community through the Heartland Roadshow, bringing meaningful films across Indiana. For more information, visit TrulyMovingPictures.org.
