ARLINGTON, Va., June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association invites you to attend an Awards Ceremony at the Air Force Memorial on Saturday, June 8 at 6:00p.m. featuring The United States Air Force Band's Airmen of Note. This event is free and open to the public and will honor the Wounded Airmen, event sponsors, and riders participating in the 2013 AFA Cycling Classic.
The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. As a part of the overall U.S. Air Force Band, the Airmen of Note honors those who have served, inspires American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and positively impacts the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States of America.
Eileen Whelan, Meteorologist and Weather Producer at WJLA, will serve as the emcee for the event. Craig McKinley, AFA President, will provide his remarks on behalf of the host organization. Commander Hernan Altamar from the Walter Reed Cycling Program will also be speaking.
Currently, the Air Force Memorial has a challenging parking situation due to the demolition of the Navy Annex buildings and parking lot. However, a parking and shuttle plan has been developed to accommodate event visitors. There is limited handicap parking at the Memorial. Additionally, the Pentagon Metro and Pentagon City Metro stops are within one mile walking distance to the Memorial.
Parking options are available in the Pentagon Overflow Parking Lot at Hayes Street, street parking along Southgate Road, and at the Sheraton Pentagon City garage for $10. Royal Trolley Tours and Signature Tours will also provide a free trolley transportation service from four locations: the Pentagon City Metro, the corner of Army-Navy Drive at the South Joyce Street ART Bus stop 42/87, the Southgate Road parking area, and the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel at Orme Street and Columbia Pike.
The 2013 Air Force Association Cycling Classic is held in partnership with Arlington Sports, Inc, a business dedicated to the promotion and development of professional and amateur cycling. Riders have a variety of opportunities to participate throughout the weekend of June 8-9 that cater to cycling enthusiasts of all abilities, from casual amateur to professional racers.
