WHAT: The invitation-only, Atlanta premiere of the HBO Documentary Film GIDEON'S ARMY presented by HBO, Gideon's Promise and Xfinity.

GIDEON'S ARMY follows three idealistic young public defenders in the Deep South who face particularly difficult challenges due to high bonds, mandatory minimum sentencing and a culture that is traditionally "tough on crime." Despite low pay, long hours and staggering caseloads; Brandy Alexander, Travis Williams and June Hardwick are inspired to take on this unique challenge in the name of public service. To stay motivated and dedicated, the attorneys receive support from Gideon's Promise (formerly the Southern Public Defender Training Center) -- an organization committed to building an army of passionate advocates to drive indigent defense reform across the South.

Directed by former attorney Dawn Porter, GIDEON'S ARMY follows the day-to-day lives of the three lawyers and steps into the courtroom as Alexander's and Williams' cases head to trial. Both cases involve young men accused of armed robbery and facing prison sentences of 10 years or more.

GIDEON'S ARMY is named after the landmark 1963 Supreme Court case Gideon v Wainwright, which ruled that the government is required to provide counsel in criminal cases for defendants who cannot afford an attorney.
