Lights, Fashion, Action! Inaugural Women & Fashion FilmFest June 8- 9, 2013
NEW YORK, May 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The inaugural Women & Fashion FilmFest, premieres in New York City on June 8th. The festival will bring together the fashion and film industries, shining a light on fashion, entertainment and media. The event will take place at The Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue, New York City. It will include 14 screenings, 6 panel discussions and a Q&A.
Women & Fashion FilmFest kicks-off with Girl Model, a documentary by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin, and continues with About Face: Supermodels, Then & Now by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Ralph Rucci: A Designer and his House, by David Boatman, and Sexy Baby by Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus. Short films include Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin's Lady Gaga series and Stuart Weitzman'sWalking After Midnight starring Petra Nemcova and directed by James Franco.
Panel discussions with industry luminaries follow select screenings. Highlights include: Modeling: Safeguarding Our Girls with Model Alliance Founder Sara Ziff and Trump Model Management President Corinne Nicolas; Women & the Business of Fashion with Patricia Field, designer/philanthropist Cornelia Guest, Glamour magazine's Fashion Development Editor Christina Pérez, and Chair of the Fashion Design Program at FIT Colette Wong; Women & the Business of Entertainment featuring filmmaker Julie Pacino, actress Heather Matarazzo; and Defining Beauty: The Role of Fashion & Media & The Impact on Women of All Ages with Executive Beauty Director of Glamour,Ying Chu, model Pat Cleveland and Beauty 4 Empowerment Founder, Dr. Shirley Madhere.
As part of the festival, students in FIT's photography program who take the Experiencing Style course have been invited to submit short fashion-related films. A judging panel will select four to five films to be screened at the FilmFest. Q&A to follow with the students.
