Toast Argentina's Most Popular Wine on April 17 - A Day to Celebrate Malbec

MENDOZA, Argentina, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Argentine Malbec has become so popular around the world that it merits its own special day of celebration. April 17, 2013 has been designated the 3(rd) annual Malbec World Day (MWD) and everyone is invited by Wines of Argentina to lift a glass in a special toast.

Official celebrations will be held in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Shanghai, Sao Paulo and, of course, Mendoza. The program, developed in collaboration with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, consists of a total of 70 events in 60 cities and 45 countries including tastings, tango performances and even a Malbec crush. The New York events will be sponsored by the Consulate General and Promotion Center of Argentina, the Ministry of Tourism of Argentina and Wines of Argentina.

In New York, the eleven-day Tribeca Film Festival will kick off on April 17 with screenings of more than 150 feature and short films. Wines of Argentina will be the official wine sponsor for several private events.

Macy's De Gustibus cooking school plans a class of Argentine dishes paired with Malbec and other Argentine wines by Chef Pablo Ranea of Azafran in Mendoza on April 18.

And a tasting of Argentine wines at City Winery will be open to the public on April 21 from 11 AM to 3 PM (Tickets at $40 per person are available at City Winery Malbec World Day Tasting).

For this year's celebration, Wines of Argentina is highlighting Malbec as a symbol of artistic expression and connecting it with the language of street art. Alberto Arizu Jr., President of Wines of Argentina, noted: "Wines of Argentina's 2013 efforts are focused on integrating new consumers. This year's Malbec World Day will establish a parallel between street art and the work of winemakers." In New York, Brooklyn-based artist CEKIS - one of the pioneers of the Latin American street art movement - will grace walls in New York in homage to Malbec.
