National Geographic's 'Curious Traveler' Shannon Switzer Sets Out on Road to Wellness Tour
WASHINGTON, April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Photojournalist and conservationist Shannon Switzer, National Geographic Traveler magazine's "Curious Traveler," has embarked on a three-week Road to Wellness tour through California and Arizona to uncover off-the-beaten-path places and experiences that rejuvenate mind, body and spirit. Through the end of April she will be posting stories about her travels on National Geographic's Curious Traveler blog as well as engaging with readers on Twitter @CuriousTraveler and Instagram @ShannonSwitzer.
"This is going to be a fun and hopefully enlightening trip," said Switzer. "I'm excited to explore the many ways the idea of 'health and wellness' is interpreted throughout the Southwest. I'm also happy to be traveling in a car that's eco-friendly, because the health of the environment directly impacts our own."
The Curious Traveler's Road to Wellness tour, sponsored by Ford C-MAX Hybrid, started on April 8 in Ojai, Calif. Switzer will continue up the coast of California before looping through Arizona and back to her hometown of San Diego. She will be traveling in a Ford C-MAX Hybrid, an all-new vehicle for Ford in North America and its first hybrid-only nameplate. Along the way, Switzer will try her hand at hot yoga in Lake Tahoe, stargaze in Sedona, Calif., and experience equine therapy in Phoenix. The California native invites her followers to share tips on secret spots and places to visit with her on Twitter and Instagram.
"This is Shannon's second trip as the Curious Traveler, and we are excited to see what she is able to unearth," said Keith Bellows, National Geographic Traveler magazine editor in chief. "Shannon has a wonderful ability to make her readers feel as though they are riding shotgun on her travels, and I expect this trip will be no different."
Switzer is a published conservation writer, award-winning photographer and a National Geographic 2011 Young Explorers Grant recipient. With a B.S. in biological sciences and a B.A. in environment studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Switzer has conducted field research and photographed endangered species and remote cultures worldwide. She's lived in Australia, Uganda and Seychelles and on a boat sailing and surfing 3,000 miles down the coast of Mexico and Central America.
