Longaberger Announces Historic Flag Day Weekend Event

WORLD'S LARGEST AMERICAN FLAG TO BE UNFURLED FOR FIRST TIME IN OHIO

COUNTRY MUSIC STAR DARRYL WORLEY WILL PERFORM

NEWARK, Ohio, April 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's largest American flag is coming to Ohio.

To mark The Longaberger Company's 40th anniversary year and to honor America, the company will celebrate a special event called the Great American Picnic Celebration at Longaberger Homestead, near Frazeysburg OH, on June 14 and 15, Flag Day weekend.

The announcement of the special celebration was made today by Longaberger CEO Tami Longaberger.

"The Longaberger Company is committed to creating jobs in Ohio and elsewhere in the U.S.A.," said Ms. Longaberger.  "Last summer we announced that, in addition to our American-made baskets, we are transitioning our entire product line to all American-made. We call this Project Eagle, and it has generated a powerful reaction nationwide.  This summer, we want to celebrate the spirit of Project Eagle in a unique and special way."

One highlight of the event will be the unfurling of the World's Largest American Flag. The flag extends over nearly two football fields in length.  The Longaberger event marks the first time this gigantic flag has ever been seen in Ohio. 

Another event highlight is a free concert by top American country recording artist Darryl Worley.  Worley is scheduled to perform at 1:30 pm ET both Friday and Saturday.   Worley's six albums have produced 18 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including three Number Ones: "I Miss My Friend", "Have You Forgotten?", and "Awful, Beautiful Life", from 2002, 2003 and 2004-2005, respectively. "Have You Forgotten?" spent seven weeks at Number 1. Nine of Worley's other singles have reached the Top 40. 

Other event features include games, door prizes, shopping specials, a wide array of dining options, displays and demonstrations.  A special red, white and blue basket has been created for the celebration with proceeds benefiting Fisher House, a national organization benefiting American military service members and their families.

The Longaberger Company is in the process of inviting other companies to join the event as a co-sponsor.    

Admission to the Great American Picnic Celebration will be free of charge.  Everyone is invited to attend the event, which offers something for every member of the family.  "Our hope is that families from across the nation will join us to help unfurl the Super Flag. It's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.  We're very excited about it," said Ms. Longaberger.
