DALLAS, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- DishLATINO, with HBO Latino and the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas, underscored its commitment to support Hispanic communities in the U.S. by sponsoring an exclusive screening of HBO's "Habla Women" yesterday in Dallas, Texas.
"DishLATINO was thrilled to host a film event that featured the rich, poignant stories of U.S. Latinas with viewing audiences," said Alfredo Rodriguez, DISH's vice president of Latino marketing. "We look forward to delivering 'Habla Women' to millions of households across the country when the episode makes its television debut next week on HBO Latino. We are proud to play a small role in the enrichment of our nation's thriving Hispanic community."
As the latest installment of the award-winning "Habla" documentary series, "Habla Women" takes a uniquely Latina view of life by exploring the attitudes, perspectives and accomplishments of 16 exceptional Latin women living in the U.S. Notable individuals highlighted include actress Gina Rodriguez, Olympic boxer Marlen Esparza, chef Daisy Martinez, comedian Rosemery Almonte and poet-activist Caridad de la Luz "La Bruja."
"At a time when Latinos have taken center-stage throughout all industries and in all aspects of our country's success, 'Habla Women' could not have come at a better time," said Alberto Ferreras, director of the documentary. "I only wish I could have included more stories, as I was so inspired by each and every woman portrayed."
Held at the Angelika Film Center, the screening was attended by Ferreras, as well as co-director Trina Bardusco and Marlen Esparza, the profiled Olympic boxer. The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas was also honored for its outstanding contributions to the state's Hispanic community.
