These tracks are global choruses of COP18 attendees at the 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference. Through CHANT, participants gave their vocal signature to environmental causes they care most about including the forest, water, sustainability and the atmosphere.
Each cause has a color and each color corresponds to a musical note:
HEALTH - C
HUMANITY - D
SUSTAINABILITY - E
FORESTS - F
WATER - G
ATMOSPHERE - A
ANIMALS - B
Produced by Youth a.k.a. Martin Glover (U2, David Gilmour and Paul McCartney) and Alex Paterson from legendary Ambient house titans "The Orb," the two tracks combine voices from around the world including Qatar, Brazil, Canada, DR Congo, Ecuador, Gambia, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, Suriname, Sweden, Tunisia, the United States, and Venezuela. You can watch many of the contributors on CHANT's YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/user/GlobalCHANT which shows who they are, where they're from, and the cause they're chanting for.
People can now participate from around the world to record their musical note or phrase and CHANT will mix those voices into an "enchanted" harmony. The note you chant will be gifted to musicians who will make beautiful music with this, and the sale will generate funds for the cause that you chanted for. CHANT will provide grants to global charities from the production and sale of its songs and creative content.
On Friday, December 21st, CHANT will have cornerstone events over all seven continents to highlight the seven key causes they will be supporting through 2013 and beyond. Locations include the mouth of the Amazon River, where musician/composer/poet Celdo Braga will be leading a group of Brazilian chanters, a beach in the Maldives, a scientific research station in Antarctica, the ocean side of California, a beautiful mountain forest in Japan, the Indian Himalayas, and Stonehenge in the UK.
CHANT is inviting everyone in the world to participate in our December 21 kickoff by uploading their own chants to www.globalchant.com. (See BACKGROUND for more information.)
