CHOICE IDENTIFIES INNOVATORS SHAPING TOMORROW'S MUSIC INDUSTRY

PARIS, Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- midemlab, the international pitching competition for innovative startups and app developers in the entertainment industry, today announces the 30 finalists bidding to shape the music industry of tomorrow. Organised by Reed MIDEM, midem 2013, the world's music market, will take place in Cannes, 26-29 January.
The midemlab finalists -- chosen by UK digital consulting company Music Ally and French consultancy specialist in open innovation, bluenove -- will pitch their business models in front of an international jury of senior executives from the entertainment industry, the advertising and brand sector, and leading investors.
The midemlab finalists will showcase ground-breaking tech solutions which all have potential to help the music industry, artists and brands to reach and engage with audiences, and to monetise this key relationship. A winner will be selected in each of three categories: Music Discovery, Recommendation & Creation; Marketing & Social Engagement; Direct to Consumer Sales & Content Monetisation.

Previous editions have provided a launch pad for some of the major technological breakthroughs in today's industry. "midemlab was an excellent way to show our product to the top people in the music industry," said Christoph Thur, co-founder and CEO of Finnish startup Ovelin, whose WildChords fun guitar tutor for the iPad was among last year's winners. Right after midem, Ovelin raised $1.4 million in seed financing to develop WildChords for other platforms.
