Two major anniversaries will soon be drawing visitors from both home and abroad to
Leipzig 2013: the birth of Richard Wagner 200 years ago (on 22 May 1813), and the Battle
of the Nations between Emperor Napoleon's troops and the coalition armies in October of
the same year.



As the composer's native city, Leipzig shines all year round with high-quality operas,
concert premieres and exhibitions, not to mention the City of Leipzig Richard Wagner
Festival (16 - 26/05/2013) and the cross-genre project "Wagner Reloaded - Apocalyptica

The double anniversary of the Battle of the Nations and the Monument to the Battle of
the Nations provides an occasion for historical re-enactments, exhibitions and
get-togethers. Highlights include the opening of the 360-degree visual panorama "Leipzig
1813 - In the Tumult of the Battle of the Nations" by Yadegar Asisi on 20 July and the
Festival Week (17/10 - 20/10/2013) featuring the open-air production "Imagine Europe".

Furthermore, the WorldSkills Leipzig 2013, known as the "World Championship for
Apprentices", takes place from 2 - 7 July 2013. After 40 years, Leipzig is bringing the
global event for vocational training back to Germany. In addition to more than 1,000
competitors from 60 countries, around 200,000 visitors and around 1,000 journalists are

From 2013, the new Porsche model Macan will be rolling off the assembly line of the
