VisualOn Delivers Mobile TV to Android for Swisscom
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- VisualOn, Inc., a multimedia software company that enables high-quality video and audio across connected devices, today announced that it has won Swisscom as a customer. VisualOn enables the telecoms provider to provide live and on-demand TV content on Android devices in Switzerland. Swisscom has integrated VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+, a solution enabling high-quality playback across devices, into its Swisscom TV Android application, which brings the best entertainment to an even broader range of connected devices.
Global mobile video consumption will grow 90 percent between 2011 and 2016, according to Cisco. Meanwhile, Android devices continue to dominate market share and the multitude of Android phones presents a unique challenge to scaling solutions to deliver media across all devices. VisualOn's cost-efficient technology enables Swisscom to offer its customers high-quality audio and visual playback regardless of varying formats, streaming protocols or hardware capabilities. This application allows Swisscom to expand its robust media platform to now offer Swiss Android users 80 channels of programming and more than 3,000 sporting events a year, on-the-go.
"The international market continues to face the growing challenge of device fragmentation while trying to deliver media on-the-go - and this is where we thrive," said Yang Cai, CEO of VisualOn. "We efficiently scale media delivery across devices for our customers like Swisscom, so they can provide a rich and seamless viewing experience for users around the world."
"We selected VisualOn as a partner based on the success it demonstrated in overcoming platform fragmentation," said Stefan Schmidlin, product manager at Swisscom. "The performance of OnStream MediaPlayer+ enables us to deliver quality live TV streaming to our customers on Android devices of all types and sizes."
The free Swisscom TV app is available now for all brands of Android smartphones, as well as for iPhones and iPads. A separate TV app is also available for Windows mobile devices. A Swisscom TV air subscription is required to use the replay and live pause functions.
