Celebrated Dutch Television and Film Actress Lydia Muijen Teams with Director Han Rhyu for Upcoming Film Festival Drama "Chances"
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Dutch actress Lydia Muijen stars in
director Han Rhyu's upcoming feature film debut "Chances" which is
currently shooting in the Death Valley desert and Las Vegas.
Rhyu directed, wrote and produced the film and says it will be finished
in December. He plans to submit it for the Cannes International Film
Festival to premiere in May 2013.
"Chances" is about a young, love struck couple in Nevada who find
themselves in a troublesome situation when their pasts are revealed
through a mistaken online identity.
"This film kind of makes you aware that every single decision you make
has consequences for the rest of your life," Muijen said.
Rhyu has previously worked with renowned French director Jean-Jacques
Beneix and Canadian Director David Cronenberg. Rhyu's critically
acclaimed "777" was shown at the Short Film Corner at Cannes and was
distributed worldwide through Shorts TV International.
In "Chances" Muijen plays Lilly, opposite Hunter Fite, who previously
acted in "The Rosary and the Gun" and "777." Fite plays Lilly's
boyfriend.
"She wants to hold onto what she loves, but she's also aware that she
can't," said Muijen. "I think everybody has a Lilly inside them."
The character required Muijen to master a complex dialect. She called
industry colleague Ty Mitchell ("True Grit") to get advice on mastering
the new accent.
"I changed into a different character so quickly," she said. "That was
quite a challenge."
Rhyu said, "Ultimately when she came on board, we kind of created her
character and added different dimensions to the character. The role of
the character had to be believable for someone born and raised in rural
America. I think that definitely adds to the project."
Muijen is known for acting in "Holy Rollers" which premiered at Sundance
in 2010 and starred Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Bartha. She acted as a
martial artist in "DisOrientation" alongside Richard Moll and Maria
Olsen.
Muijen has also acted in theater productions such as West of Broadway's
"Judgment at Nuremberg" starring Katherine Ross, Drake Hogestyn and
Andy Hirsch.
She's acting in "Desert Island" Nov. 3 and 4 at Hollywood's Stella Adler
Theater.
