Aussie Dad Delivers International Teen App Dream as One Direction Mania Hits Fever Pitch
GOLD COAST, Australia, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- An Australian father of three is the unlikely answer to the pop prayers of screaming teens around the globe.
Mega boy band, One Direction has just released their brand new album Take Me Home before kicking off their world tour through Europe, North America and Australasia.
With the world's hottest pop phenomenon on the move, over 10 million Facebook fans and a combined 42 million Twitter followers will scramble to track their every move and 17 year-old Amy Boulter is no exception.
Inspired by his teenage daughter's obsession, Queensland dad, Adam Boulter spent five months researching, developing and building a tracking app that is sending die-hard Directioners into an all out spin.
Called the 1D Tracker, it's unlike any other app of its kind allowing fans to follow Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson from concert to concert, country to country and tweet to heart-skip-a-beat tweet.
The app almost reached a dead end with Apple citing copyright and privacy concerns but the determined dad stuck to the cause and took his new app straight to the stars.
With direct sign off from One Direction management, Mr. Boulter got the green light to take his app to market and his daughter Amy couldn't be happier.
"It has turned out really cool, my friends and I really love it! I just can't believe how much time dad put into it," she said.
Working full-time as a Web & Multimedia Producer for a Gold Coast radio station, Mr. Boulter built the app in his 'spare' time.
"I've really enjoyed this whole process and I'm thrilled with the results. While we can't track the lads in real time, it's as close as you can possibly get."
"The timing of this app couldn't be better. From official concerts and events, in transit to round the clock spotting, the 1D Tracker will always point fans in the right direction."
Mr. Boulter described the app as a one-stop shop where Directioners can get their daily dose and said his daughter's seal of approval was the key driver in developing the technological tour bus.
Earlier this year, Mr. Boulter and his wife sat at the dinner table competing with the iPhone for Amy's attention.
"She was using an airline app to track the flight carrying One Direction on their way to Australia."
Mr. Boulter asked his daughter if she would be interested in an app that tracked the band anywhere in the world.
"I was met with a loud and decisive 'absolutely' and so I decided to build it just for her."
Mr. Boulter says he is already developing brand new features and future updates for the app that he knows fans are going to love.
The app has just been released on the iTunes App Store for 99 cents (USD) and is compatible with Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod devices.
"I wanted to keep it affordable for the tween and teen markets."
Overwhelmed by its success, Mr. Boulter plans to release Tracker apps for other big name artists.
For now though, it's all about those five faces that adorn every square inch of his daughter's wall space and who's whereabouts whip the teen world into a high-pitched frenzy of giggles, tears and screams.
