Sony Electronics Employees "Rock the Harvest" in Music Benefit Concert Supporting Local Food Charity
2nd Annual Performance to Raise Funds for Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels
PARK RIDGE, N.J., Oct. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Sony Electronics employees will once again put their musical talents to use in support of Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels(PVMoW). Following a successful 2011 concert that raised $5,500 for the volunteer relief organization, "Rock the Harvest" features Sony's Rockers against Hunger (RAH!) musicians as they continue their efforts to combat hunger. Up to 10 different bands are scheduled to take the stage at the Park Ridge Marriott's Brookside Parc Room, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012. Doors open at 5:30 pm, with the music beginning at 6:00 pm.
According to Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels director Jeanne Martin, last year's benefit performance demonstrated how the powerful combination of music and volunteerism can effect change, not only in a community, but in people's lives.
"Last year's concert exceeded even our highest expectations," Martin said. "This type of event is something that you hope doesn't need to become an annual occurrence, but unfortunately, hunger is a reality in so many of our communities. It's so gratifying to see the outpouring of hard work, dedication and caring by the Sony employee/musicians come together in such a unique way to truly make a difference and have a positive impact."
No strangers to fund-raising efforts, the RAH musicians often give their time and talents, organizing benefit shows for local food banks like the Center for Food Action and international charities such as Save the Children Foundation's Haiti Earthquake Emergency Fund.
"We all have day jobs and other commitments, but this is a great chance to put our personal passions for music to use and really do a good thing," said Glenn Govier, manager, service planning for Sony Electronics. "Through our music, and the support of many talented and dedicated individuals, we're doing what we can to make our corner of the world a better place."
The concert is co-sponsored by Sony Electronics Inc., Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels, Inc. and Park Ridge Marriott, with support from media partner WFDU-FM 89.1.
The evening will feature sets by 10 bands, the majority of which are comprised of Sony employees with occupations as diverse as lawyers, engineers, marketers and sales account managers.
A "Silent Auction" will be held throughout the evening's performance. All funds raised at the door and through the silent auction will benefit Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels, Inc.
Scheduled to perform are: VSB, Sidebar, Mojo Workin', Marian & the Marianettes, the Rafael Orsini Band, Craig DeBari & the Usual Suspects, Joe Balsam & Bandejour, Bridget Collins Band, Mercy Street plus very special guests Carlos Colina & Straight Up, fronted by Emerson, N.J. mayor Carlos Colina.
In addition to the participating musicians, several other people and groups have donated their time and efforts to making this concert a success, including Stephen Lazina Design, which created the artwork for promotional posters, and several Sony-Park Ridge employee groups.
