Established Bay Area filmmaker directs thought provoking film about economic inequality in the United States.

BERKELEY, Calif., Oct. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States has just faced the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, so what happens when a growing economic inequality in America bears heavily on its people? A new short film directed by Celik Kayalar, featuring Noam Chomsky in his first non-documentary film, and the veteran film and tv actor Carl Lumbly, titled 99%, asks viewers to contemplate that very question.

99% comes on the heels of an economic crisis where many Americans found themselves laid off, losing homes and investments, offering hope to these people in the form of Anne Page, a struggling young school teacher, searching for answers of her own. Occupy Movement looms large as the backdrop of the film.

"This film is by the people, for ALL the people," said Kayalar, who wrote 99% because of the strong, thought provoking message it sends viewers, but also urges audiences to keep an open mind and develop individual opinions. "We are all Anne Page."
