"The Photography of Graham Nash" To Open At The House Of Photographic Art In The Historic Forster Mansion With An Artist's Reception Hosted By The Women Of Chapman
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Graham Nash has helped shape the world around him through ideas, innovations, and influential works of art for more than four decades. A legendary singer-songwriter, Nash is also an internationally renowned photographer and digital imaging pioneer whose work is represented--by a classic 1969 portrait of David Crosby--in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. "The Photography of Graham Nash," an exhibition of 50 of Nash's images, will open on Tuesday, October 2 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the House of Photographic Art (HOPA) at the historic Forster Mansion in San Juan Capistrano, CA (27182 Ortega Highway, 92675).
The opening reception is a benefit event hosted by The Women of Chapman, a vibrant group of philanthropic-minded women who are strongly dedicated to a program of service to Chapman University. Nash will be on hand to sign books and prints. Attendees will also have the opportunity to order Love, Graham Nash, a handmade fine press book limited to 70 copies, signed and numbered by Nash (the set includes 21 bound photographs, images of handwritten lyrics for 17 of Nash's songs, letterpress versions of lyrics, a portfolio of nine free-standing photographs, and a companion CD). Tickets for the artist's reception are $50 per person. RSVP is required, contact Maryanne Charis at 949-429-2220.
Nash first started taking pictures when he was ten years old, inspired by his father, an amateur photographer. "I had a camera before I had a guitar," he remembers. Many of the works featured in The Photography of Graham Nash at H.O.P.A. were previously published in the book Eye To Eye: Photographs By Graham Nash (Steidl, 2004). Among the images are portraits of family, friends, self, and fellow music world icons, as well as scenes and cityscapes captured during Nash's world travels. At the heart of Nash's photography is what he has described as, "That decisive moment when it all comes together in that little rectangle in the viewfinder--it all clicks, and then I click."
Currently, Nash is touring the U.S. with Crosby, Stills and Nash, who recently performed a sold-out concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The tour concludes in October with five nights at New York City's Beacon Theatre. CSN 2012, a 25-song set presenting the group's first live performance film in more than 20 years, was released earlier this summer. Captured in high-definition during the early portion of CSN's 2012 world tour, the set is available worldwide from CSN Records in Blu-ray, DVD/2CD (3 discs), and Digital formats.
Born in Blackpool, England, Nash was appointed OBE by Queen Elizabeth in 2010. He first rose to fame with British Invasion hit makers The Hollies, and went on to form Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1968. Nash has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
With his photography, Nash has exhibited worldwide. His work is collected in the book Eye to Eye: Photographs by Graham Nash, and he curates others' work in Taking Aim: Unforgettable Rock 'n' Roll Photographs Selected by Graham Nash. In a third book (and CD collection), Off The Record, Nash'sManuscript Originals presents handwritten images of the lyrics from 25 of the world's best loved songs. In 1990, he established Nash Editions, now one of the world's top photographic printmaking houses--and recognized by the Smithsonian Institution for its role in the invention of digital fine art printing.
